Joint health and safety committee can help improve health and safety behavior at work in each of the following categories:
Demonstrate management commitment : Health and safety should be discussed on regular basis at management meetings at all levels at the organisation.
Promoting OHS standard: ensuring that employees attend specialist refresher training courses when required.
Developing competence: be documented, as appropriate and according to the size and nature of activity of the organization. Cover all members of the organization, as appropriate.
Keeping up-date with OHS laws: Reading health and safety periodicals from OHS organisations.
Communicating effectively: Ensuring the internal communication of health and safety information between relevant levels and functions of the organisations.
Consulting with the workforce: Have access to all parts of the work place and be able to communicate with the workers, including contractors.
Training in health and safety: How to identify and minimize hazards. Provide effective and timely initial and refresher training at appropriate in travels.
